Imagination and the ability to create my own world through art has allowed me to escape reality in a multitude of ways. My artwork displays a melancholic and uncomfortable feeling through my subjects, while creating a free flowing, somber tone through my mediums. I use these techniques as a way to compress my feelings, providing me with an effective stress reliever.
We use art everyday to communicate abstract ideas that are more efficiently shown, than they are said. A piece of art can leave a lasting impression on someone, and if absorbed by the viewer in the right perspective, leave them with a changed sense of mind. I believe art is a very powerful tool, allowing us to peek into the artist's mind, as well as the subjects of the artist. My goal is to effectively create this connection between me, my subjects, and the audience, providing a memorable experience.
With that being said, I’ve always had a fascination with the way people express their feelings, and because of my interest in this, I wanted to break these feelings down into each component of expression; the postures they form, the way their facial features distort, and everything subtle in between. This collection of artwork, Cold Sentiment, is my attempt at capturing the intense expressions of these people (or subjects) at emotional moments using charcoal and acrylic paints.
